Despite the name, this does not measure conflict, sentiment, users, or content. It counts how fast aggregate ATProto events occur — posts, likes, follows, blocks, deletes — and how well it is observing them. Nothing here identifies anyone, reconstructs a social graph, reads any post, or detects a dispute. Global Beef Index is a joke name for a composite that does not exist.

Cortisol accounting for the ATProto firehose — event velocity, not affect. Aggregate activity observed from wss://jetstream1.us-east.bsky.network/subscribe during the stated observation interval. Counts describe what this endpoint delivered; they are not a claim about the network's total activity, and no relay is authoritative or complete.

This is measured, not hypothetical. A controlled probe (2026-08-08) compared two same-region public Jetstream endpoints over one interval and found their post volumes differing by ~1.61×, with a same-endpoint self-control of 1.000 — so relays are demonstrably not interchangeable. Rates here are as observed at wss://jetstream1.us-east.bsky.network/subscribe and are not estimates of total-network activity. That ratio is an inter-observer comparison, not a coverage or completeness figure: neither observer has a canonical denominator.
